Karen Ann Schuessler
Karen Ann Schuessler is the founder and
Artistic Director of the Karen Schuessler Singers. Under her guidance, the Karen Schuessler
Singers has become well known for its high standards, its varied repertoire, and its
performances of Missa Gaia/Earth Mass.
A native of Michigan, Karen holds
a Bachelor of Music degree from Michigan State University and a Master of Music
degree in Organ Performance from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. After finishing her formal musical training, Karen came to London to raise her family and start her career. Over the
years she developed a special affinity for choirs and a deep love for the choral
art that continues to grow. She particularly loves exploring the many themes and
ideas available for choral presentation and the excitement of making the performance
magic happen.
Her work has not gone unrecognised. In 2004 she was nominated YWCA Woman of Distinction.
And in 2009 the Karen Schuessler Singers was winner of the Jack Richardson Award
for Best Classical Choir.
In addition to exploring
many avenues in the world of choral music through the Karen Schuessler Singers,
Karen is Driector of Music
at Wesley-Knox United Church, London, where she conducts the children's, youth and dult choirs
and plays the organ. Karen maintains a studio,
teaching voice,
piano, theory and organ. She is an examiner for Conservatory Canada
and was 2007-2008 National Travelling Choral Clinician for RCCO, the Royal Canadian
College of Organists. She is much in demand as a recitalist, choral
clinician and music festival adjudicator.
